Phoenix Entrepreneur Credits Education For Problem Solving Skills
Many successful businesses do not create a product or service directly for consumers, but instead focus on providing services for other companies to help them run their businesses more efficiently or effectively.
If you are interested in starting your own business, this may be a great way for you to go about becoming a business founder without needing to create a product and then work on marketing it to consumers. Eric Roudi, Founder and CEO of OpenWorks, started his business in 1983, providing facilities management and maintenance services to local corporations, which helps them be able to focus on their own products instead of on keeping their workspace clean and safe.
Roudi talks about his career in business.
What degree program did you study? “I double majored in mechanical engineering and economics at Tufts and later on attended Harvard Business School for the OPM program.
”What does your current job entail? “As the founder and CEO, I am in charge of setting and executing strategic direction for OpenWorks, mostly looking at a two to five-year horizon. I focus on excellence in the organization as well as development of our team members to create the best employee group possible.
”What is your favorite part of your daily duties?“I really enjoy getting sales flashes from my team, as it helps to build camaraderie and lets me stay on top of what’s going on with each team member.”
Do you feel your education prepared you for your current role? “Yes. My engineering education helped me become a good problem solver.”
ave you participated in any form of continuing education? “I have been part of Young (& World) President’s Organization (YPO-WPO) for the past 14 years.”
Do you have any advice for people wanting to pursue a similar career?“Set an aggressive goal and to not be afraid of setbacks. Persistence and perseverance pays off.”View full article here:
